Subir Bhattacharya was associated with MECON Limited, Ranchi, India, for over three decades till he was superannuated as General Manager (Economist). Subir obtained M. A (Economics) and subsequently Ph. D. in (Applied Economics) from Visva-Bharati University, Santiniketan, West Bengal in 1985 and 1989 respectively.   

He was honoured by Honourable Prime Minister of India, Mr. Rajiv Gandhi and Smt Sonia Gandhi in the “Welcome Toppers Programme” for good performance in Post-graduate examination, 1986. He has received the prestigious “SAIL Award” in 2007, 2008, 2010, 2017 from The Institution of Engineers (India).

Subir has significant specialized experience in several national and international projects in the areas of Market Research study, Benchmarking study, Power sector restructuring, specialized studies like the World Bank funded projects such & “India : Orissa Emergency Cyclone Reconstruction & Disaster Management Programme”, “India: Environmental Issues in Power sector”, Industrial cluster in Odisha for Industrial Promotion & Investment Corporation of Odisha Limited (IPICOL) etc. He has He has proven skills in managing key clients like Qatar Steel Limited, Qatar; Rukki Metals, Finland; United Gulf Group (UGG), Saudi Arabia and Emirates Trading Agency (ETA), Dubai; Steel Authority of India Limited (SAIL); National Mineral Development Corporation (NMDC), Jindal South West (JSW), Manganese Ore India Limited (MOIL) etc.

He was Adjunct Professor in Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Kharagpur and Visiting Professor in Birla Institute of Technology (BIT), Mesra; Ranchi. He held faculty positions in various professional training courses organized by the World Bank / DFID, USAID, Indian School of Mines, Management Training Institute (MTI), SAIL, The Institution of Engineers (India), MECON etc.
